Izu & Ogasawara Islands
Starting with northernmost Oshima Island (about 100 km from Tokyo), the Izu Island chain is made up of over 100 islands running north to south from Tokyo Bay. Beyond that, the Ogasawara archipelago consists of 30 large and small islands about 1,000 km (620 mi) south of Tokyo. Both of these island chains belong to the Tokyo prefecture and are blessed with untouched nature and unique island ecosystems. You can get to the islands from Tokyo via ship and some islands from Tokyo via plane. On the islands there are various activities that are popular such as, diving, surfing, swimming, trekking, bird watching, fishing, star gazing etc.
