When the flow of a river was blocked after an eruption of nearby Mt. Nantai, Lake Chuzenji was formed gradually. Because of its mild climate, more than 100 years ago the area around the lake was known as a resort for resident foreigners. During the fall, visitors are able to enjoy the beautifully multi-hued foliage from the sightseeing boats.
