In 1609, Tokugawa Ieyasu (who founded the Edo government) built this castle. A pair of golden shachihoko (statues of mythical dolphin), roof ornaments, that stand on top of the donjon are the symbols of Nagoya. This castle is the 2nd largest in the country after the Edo Castle. Recently, a group of handsome guys called ”Nagoya Omotenashi Bushotai” has become popular as a part of tourism PR. They entertain tourists by performing dances and short plays during holidays.
