As in 1993 it became a World Heritage, Yakushima is famous as the stage of Hayao Miyazaki’s film, “Princess Mononoke”. The “Jomon Sugi” cedar tree is said to be 7,200 year old and is one of the natural beauties this island is famous for. The annual rainfall of the forest exceeds 8000 mm, and there are 600 types of moss grow around the area.
