TokyoBon odori Dance

Overview

This dance is performed at summer festivals by town and school dance groups. Many neighborhoods make a big event of it, pairing it with a night market or festival. The Bon Odori dance began as a Buddhist religious ritual dance meant to guide the souls of ancestors returning for a summer visit. Many groups wear masks during the dance, so that anyone can participate and pay respect to their forebears. *Contact us for timing and locations.
